You may be having trouble losing weight because you are in a rut, having tried many fad diets, but you know that to “diet” means only changing the way you eat for a limited time. The trouble with diets is that they go against the way that your subconscious mind has been programmed to work and their effect is only temporary. You may be able to temporarily break it on a conscious level, but your subconscious mind has more power and tends to cause you to go back to your “normal” routines. This in NO way means that you are a weak willed person. This is simply the way the brain is designed to function. Meaning that no matter how hard you try to break a conscious habit, you subconscious mind will tend to overpower your conscious mind and cause you to go back to what it considers “normal.” For instance: Let’s consider an action that you learn to do. As you learn something it becomes hard-wired into your subconscious mind so that your conscious mind can focus on doing things like analysis, decision making, and learning new things. How would life be if you had to rely on your conscious mind to do things like drive a car, write a sentence, type, read, speak, or play sports? Can you remember when you were first learning to do these things? Every movement was a conscious thought and decision. Now that you have completely learned them and made them into behavior patterns in your subconscious mind, you can do them without giving them a second thought. Now, can you imagine having to unlearn any of these things? For instance: learning a new language while trying to forget how to speak your native tongue, or learning to write left handed if you are right handed. This demonstrates how hard it is to change your habits when it comes to food, weight loss, or any other problem habit.

You are not weak, your mind simply likes to keep things the way they are. It’s a good thing that your mind works this way, unless you are trying to change a habit that is.
